Wynnum girl comes home after 20 years to open a Flannerys

Flannerys is proud to announce the opening of their new store in Wynnum Plaza on Tuesday 1 April. One of the co-owners, Gail Hooker, is a local girl coming home after 20 years to open and run it.

Gail grew up in Wynnum in the 60’s, 70’s and early 80’s with her 3 brothers and 3 sisters, attending Wynnum West Primary School and Wynnum High School. Their original family home in Worthing Street was an old army barrack which her carpenter father made into a loving, warm and safe family home back in 1949. Today it is still exactly the same as when her parents sold it back in 1988.

“Whenever I drive past on the way to the waterfront I always give it a wave. It’s great to see it hasn’t been torn down and the block redeveloped as with many of the surrounding neighbourhood homes. I remember how sad we all were when our parents sold the house.” Gail said.

“Growing up in Wynnum was heaps of fun, Dad would take us fishing off the Wynnum jetty and because we were poor the fishing rod was only a coke bottle but gee we still caught some good size fish. The wading pool was a ‘must’ in summer and let’s not forget the good old Manly baths” she said.

Gail hasn’t lived in Wynnum for over 20 years but her heart has always been there. She was never too far away, living in the Redlands for most of that time and would often drive to the Wynnum waterfront to walk her dog.

“My business partner, Grace Lolicato who is a qualified Naturopath, and I are looking forward to the opening and providing the community with a genuine healthy alternative” said Gail.

We are very excited about the business partnership of Gail and Grace. One is a very experienced and successful Naturopath and the other is a qualified and successful Financial Controller, plus they are both caring and fun loving women who will look after their customers so we couldn’t be happier!
